MARKET BRIEF

The UAE: look for the right buyer, not a wealth narrative.

A trading hub is an opportunity to investigate. Distribution fit comes first.

International trade and market research

A significant China–UAE trade relationship.

WAM reported that China–UAE non-oil trade reached US$111.5 billion in 2025, growing 24.5%. That is two-way trade, not the UAE’s imports from China alone. China was the UAE’s largest import partner, giving buyers an established commercial context for China sourcing.

Understand the hub role.

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Trade reported US$577.6 billion of non-oil imports and US$226 billion of re-exports in 2025, across all trading partners. These measures are different and should not be combined or attributed entirely to China. A distributor may serve local demand, onward markets, or both.

The buyer matters more than the headline.

Explore established importers, distributors and project procurement teams with a defined need. Product standards, destination requirements, payment terms and freight economics still need to be confirmed. A wealthy consumer base does not automatically make an unspecified product easy to sell.

Our view.

Treat the UAE as a focused discovery market. Start with a defined product category and qualified buyers, test the commercial fit, and expand only when the evidence supports it.
